Throughout my career I've worked as a Registered Nurse on the floor in the ER and L&D, instructed clinical placements for RN & LPN students, managed a rural hospital, and now I'm an acute care nurse educator. I have been lucky enough to see some of my nursing students from clinical grow into incredible advocates for patients and the nursing profession. I would love the opportunity to help ease your transition into the working world!
When I joined the nursing workforce 11 years ago, I was overwhelmed by the entire experience: the steep learning curve of clinical knowledge, developing time management skills, building confidence in effective communication with both staff and patients, and managing the fatigue of transitioning into shift work. I love to see new nurses thriving in their new roles- let me help you transition seamlessly!
Nursing is unique as it requires you to excel in both clinical knowledge as well as social/emotional skills. In a fast paced patient care environment, you need to provide safe and compassionate care while being pulled in many directions and developing your nursing process. Let me take away some of the stress by providing resources to prepare you for the real world of independent nursing. Not only will you find tidbits of pathophysiology and disease management, but self care strategies, tips for working shift work, and real world advice from senior nurses. Welcome to the New Grad Nurse Blog.
Interested in learning more about your role as a new grad during a code blue? Wish you knew how to interpret a arterial blood gas? Wondering if you should start your career on a med/surg unit or if starting in a specialty is ok?
The New Grad Nurse Library is here to answer all your questions! Have a burning question you think your new grad colleagues are also wondering- send me a message! I want this to be a resource for YOU and what YOU want to know!
This is the easiest way to keep track of new articles and enjoy the TLDR versions for those who are catching up on coffee break. Additionally, as an acute care educator I'm teaching nurses daily! Join along for regular tidbits of learning and behind the scenes into rural nursing.
I would love the opportunity to host workshops and events to create a community for our newest colleagues! From a burn-out prevention self care seminar to an evening of learning the red flags of patient deterioration over charcuterie, I have a repertoire of plans in the works!
Please send any burning questions you have my way! I'm here to provide resources for new grad nurses to become more confident and competent in the world of healthcare. I guarantee if you're wondering something, someone else is too!
